New York, NY - December 19, 2007 - Shorewood Packaging, a business of International Paper, introduces the greenchoice™ PDQ Counter Display and the Power Wing Self-Shipper. These two sustainable P.O.P. display products are part of Shorewood's ever-expanding program, greenchoice™ Environmental Solutions for Packaging and Displays.
PDQ* Counter Display The new greenchoice™ PDQ Countertop Display design has been simplified for easier assembly and to reduce material, which allows for up to a 20 percent cost savings. This new patent-pending PDQ display contains only three parts: a shipper, a tray and a back billboard. Shipped with the product, simply remove the display from the shipper and it's ready to be placed on the countertop.
Power Wing Self-Shipper The greenchoice™ Power Wing Self-Shipper is a patented shipping carton and product display all-in-one unit. When the display arrives in the store, the front panel is simply torn off along the perforation and the display is ready to hang, with product already loaded. Using 40 percent less corrugate than previous Power Wing options, it is more lightweight. And because it is one piece, there are no additional components to assemble and no master shipper required. The collapsible PDQ try design reduces shipping cube, thereby lowering shipping costs and the carbon emissions expelled by vehicles that can now carry more shippers in fewer trips.
greenchoice™ Solutions Shorewood's new P.O.P. display designs are featured in the greenchoice™ "Green Toolbox," to provide customers with solutions to simplify both packaging and displays while offering alternative materials to meet sustainable standards.
The greenchoice™ "Green Toolbox" includes environmentally responsible ways to:
-
Create smaller footprints for displays
-
Focus on source reduction
-
Eliminate permanent materials on floor displays and pallets
-
Eliminate the use of plastics
-
Replace PVCs with PET and RPET
-
Incorporate innovative, alternate materials like PaperFoam® and PLA (polylactide acid)
-
Develop new Vac Form Display designs using PET, RPET, PaperFoam and PLA
"Driven by retailer requirements, primarily Wal-Mart's Sustainable Packaging Initiative, we at Shorewood are all focused on sustainability," said Michael Williams, vice president and national sales manager for Shorewood Display. "Not only do the greenchoice™ solutions meet retailers' needs, they also save material and money for customers. We're reducing freight costs, material costs, and waste, allowing for greater efficiency both at the beginning and the end of the display's life cycle."
According to Williams, eighty percent of Shorewood Display's customers are exploring options for greener shipping and display options, and the number is growing every day. "Pfizer has had great success with both the sustainable Self-Shipper and PDQ Counter Displays for products like Excedrin and Visine," said Williams. "This is just the beginning of a number of green solutions we are developing that will reduce material, production and shipping costs, and use alternative material and inks for greater sustainability."
