Shorewood Packaging Invests Globally for Growth

New York, NY - February 14, 2007 - Shorewood Packaging, a business of International Paper, has installed new top-of-the-line offset lithographic printing presses at three of its facilities in an effort to continue to meet and exceed customer expectations with expanded printing capability.

Shorewood's Indianapolis, Ind. and Hendersonville, N.C. facilities and its Guangzhou folding carton facility in the Peoples' Republic of China are all operating the newest presses in offset lithography in addition to their existing line-up of production equipment.  These facilities provide premium packaging for a range of global manufacturers in the cosmetics & fragrance, personal care, OTC pharmaceutical, confectionery and golf ball markets.  In addition, the Indianapolis and Hendersonville facilities specialize in producing high quality packaging for the Home Entertainment market.

Many of the features on the new equipment are fully automated, resulting in increased productivity and efficiencies as well as shorter make-ready.  Enhancements include an advanced computerized color management system, modular in-line UV coating system, pre-set functions that reduce manual set-up, and digital integrated workflow.  In combination, these innovative manufacturing refinements equate to high print quality, sharp colors, flexibility and cost-effectiveness.  As a result, Shorewood's customers will reap the benefit of packaging with stronger shelf appeal, increased brand equity and higher consumer takeaway.

The addition of the new technology aligns with Shorewood's global investment program, which includes two new facilities scheduled to open this quarter, one in Shanghai, PRC and the other in Torun, Poland.  New or updated presses and other production equipment are being installed in other Shorewood facilities to increase the company's ability to provide the best packaging in the industry.
