Foodservice Puts a Sporty Stamp on Del Taco Cups

MONTVALE, N.J. – The Foodservice Business's innovative graphic work for Del Taco Restaurant is drawing praise. Foodservice printed dramatic action photos from professional sports leagues like the NHL and NBA on 32-ounce promotional cups, which where then distributed at Del Taco locations in the home cities of the Anaheim Mighty Ducks, Phoenix Coyotes and the Los Angeles Clippers. The cups were recently recognized for their innovative design by Quick Serve Restaurant (QSR) Magazine.

The Clemson Graphic Communications Hub used flexography, a system of printing on a rotary press, to make the challenging photographic images on the disposable cups printable for the Shelbyville and Visalia Foodservice teams. "Each cup design had three variations run through the press at the same time, with every third cup a repeat." Said, Ian Ruff, graphic arts specialist at the Clemson Hub. "This adds some surprise and variation for customers and helped us gain the recognition of QSR Magazine."

The vibrant colors combined with the prominent logo allow the package to function as mobile signage for the customer. "Our packaging can act as a visual billboard for us," says Del Taco's marketing director, Tim Hackbardt. With almost 400 restaurants across the country, Del Taco is a major player in the Mexican-style quick-service food category.
