We have a commitment to growth. And re-growth in every area of our business, International Paper is committed to operating in sustainable ways.  That means we protect forest and other natural resources while we produce paper and packaging products for our customers.  We manage our fiber, water, energy and product recovery as part of our commitments to sustainable management.

Because paper and packaging are made from renewable resources – trees – our products encourage long-term forestland stewardship.  It is important to encourage this stewardship to ensure forests will be around for many generations to come, especially as land owners are faced with increasing competition from alternative uses for their land, such as urban development.

In 2005, International Paper made the strategic decision to assess our forestlands.  As we have transitioned much of our forestland to new ownership, we continue to demonstrate our commitment to sustainable forestry and environmental conservation with the agreements we have negotiated.  These agreements ensure the protection of many of our most ecologically sensitive lands and make sure that our fiber will continue to come from sustainably managed forestlands.

 International Paper has a long legacy of sustainability and conservation.  IP has protected approximately 1.5 million acres through land sales, donations and conservation easements to conservation organizations since 1958.

Our corporate commitment to sustainability includes:  The 100% renewable forest fiber procured for our mills is third-party certified to both the SFI® program and ISO 14001 standards.
