Savannah Mill

Located in Chatham County, Georgia across the Savannah River from South Carolina, the Savannah mill resides on a 450 acres site, and produces unbleached kraft linerboard, corrugating medium, and saturating kraft paper.

Environmental Stewardship
In addition to community programs, the Savannah mill has invested over $150 million in environmental improvements and is in compliance with all applicable rules and regulations. Since 1988 they have been able to reduce total sulfide emissions by 90% and reduce lime kiln particulate emissions by more than 98%.

Investment in water conservation measures has resulted in being able to reuse water within the process 12 times – thus reducing the water used per ton of product by 36%.

Production
Our Savannah mill has three paper machines, which can produce unbleached kraft linerboard. In 1991, Shortly after celebrating the mill's 50th anniversary, we embarked upon an extensive construction project which included a new wood chipping line, Kamyr digester, lime kiln and a new high speed linerboard/paper machine, which produces up to 500,000 tons/year.

Community Involvement
Besides providing financial benefits through direct employment, Savannah communities benefit from the approximate 1,700 employees who support community activities by volunteering to read at public schools, serving on local community agency boards, walking for March of Dimes, collecting for United Way, assisting with the construction of handicap ramps for senior citizens, annually donating nearly 700 pints of blood to the American Red Cross and more.
