Prattville Mill

Overview
Located near the Alabama state capital of Montgomery, the Prattville mill resides on a 6000-acre site, and produces unbleached kraft linerboard.

Production
Our Prattville mill is close to two major railroads and two interstate highways, thus facilitating truck or rail shipments. Operating two machines, our Prattville mill has a sophisticated computer control system, which enables production of unbleached kraft linerboard with tightly controlled basis weight and moisture profiles.
Environmental Stewardship
Environmentally, the mill received International Paper’s Environmental Excellence Award for Business Units for 1999. It has continually been on the forefront of technology to improve the environment. Recent improvements include a high-efficiency wet electrostatic precipitator and a condensate stripping system. Additionally, the mill and company are committed to managing forestlands in a responsible manner, taking a lead role in the American Forest & Paper Association’s Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI).
Community Involvement
The Prattville mill is an active community participant in Prattville, Autauga County and the surrounding areas. Through the International Paper Foundation and its predecessor Union Camp, the mill has contributed several million dollars through local governments for educational and other community enhancements. Education of the community on important environmental and business issues is done primarily via a community advisory council, now in its 8th year. Many of the mill’s 650 employees are actively involved in community groups such as United Way, youth sports leadership, volunteer fire departments, school projects, and many other beneficial activities.
