International Paper is a global leader in the paper and packaging industry and supplies a wide range of products that people rely on every day. The company produces uncoated papers and industrial and consumer packaging. Through xpedx, its North American distribution business, the company also offers printing, packaging, graphic arts, maintenance and industrial products.

International Paper has operations, including pulp and paper mills and converting and packaging plants, in North America, Europe, Latin American, Russia, Asia and North Africa. As of July 31, 2010 we had approximately 60,000 employees in more than 20 countries. International Paper stock is traded internationally on the New York Stock Exchange.

International Paper supports communities where its employees live and work. The International Paper Foundation has awarded grants of more than $70 million since 1995. Through the Foundation, International Paper employees give not only their money, but give their time to make communities better places to live.

International Paper has a long-standing policy of using no wood from endangered forests and   uses third-party certification, chain-of-custody and internationally recognized forest certification standards in all of our operations.  The company recognizes the following certification standards for use in our global operations; Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC), Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), the Sustainable Forestry Initiative® (SFI®) and Cerflor, the Brazilian Program of Forest certification.  In countries or regions of the world that do not have established certification standards, International Paper will implement ISO 14001 environmental management systems on the wood or fiber purchasing systems for our facilities.

Facilities
In the United States at December 31, 2009, including the Containerboard, Packaging and Recycling business (CBPR) acquired in August 2008 from Weyerhaeuser Company, the Company operated 21 pulp, paper and packaging mills, 146 converting and packaging plants, 19 recycling plants and three bag facilities. Production facilities at December 31, 2009 in Europe, Asia, Latin America and South America included eight pulp, paper and packaging mills, 53 converting and packaging plants, and two recycling plants. We distribute printing, packaging, graphic arts, maintenance and industrial products principally through over 237 distribution branches in the United States and 35 distribution branches located in Canada, Mexico and Asia. At December 31, 2008, we owned or managed approximately 200,000 acres of forestlands in the United States, approximately 290,000 acres in Brazil and had, through licenses and forest management agreements, harvesting rights on government-owned forestlands in Russia.
